Throw back to some of my earliest childhood memories

I am the daughter of an avid cook & lover of food. As a child growing up, I believed that healthy food tasted phenomenal. I noticed the way in which it could bring people together and left others sitting in ecstasy at the dining room table. I would listen to my brother moan in pure delight when finishing one of my mother’s home made dishes and observed how easy it was to make friends by sharing different food items from my lunchbox at break time.

I knew from an early age that I wanted to work with food, but I had no idea then that food would become the focal point around which my life would thrive.

For as long as I can remember I have had an interest in food and health

After school I went on to study a BSc in Dietetics & Human Nutrition Sciences where I learnt a great deal about food and the body. Ironically, it was during my varsity years and whilst I was studying nutrition that I was the most unhealthy. After years of neglecting myself, I felt completely disconnected from the person I had once been. When I moved back home in 2012 I was chronically fatigued and felt plagued by self-doubt.

It was at this stage of my life that my real purpose driven journey with food began

I reconnected with my body and health through high quality, unprocessed plant based foods and healed a chronic systemic acne condition as well as my fatigue and anxiety. I haven’t looked back since.

Food makes me feel abundant, supported and uplifted

Ultimately for me, cooking with high quality plant based foods is a tangible self-love practice. When I nourish my body, it positively influences how I feel about myself which then manifests into how I treat other people.

This blog is a place for me to share my ideas, and add inspiration and joy to your daily lives through my love and passion for food and good living. When you look after yourself, when you get enough rest, when you consume deeply nourishing foods the natural result is that you become more energetic and more joyful.

Currently there is a widespread whole foods movement taking the world by storm

These are foods that have undergone little or no refining or processing, contain no artificial additives or preservatives, support local farmers, and positively influence the habits of the consumer. Holistic nutrition is a health care system that integrates the physical, nutritional, environmental and spiritual components of one’s life. In other words acknowledging a deeper connection between mind, body and soul.

If you are hungry for self empowerment and healthy change look within to find the answers. We all posses the ability to uplift and heal the self. If you listen closely to what the body is telling you, are able to receive and digest (no pun intended) information whilst discerning what is most applicable to you, then I guarantee you can successfully make the changes in your diet to live a happy and healthy life.

To create a consistently healthy lifestyle you have to plan ahead

Get inspired by collecting plant based recipe books and following different foodies. Commit to trying one new recipe per week. Go to a health shop and buy one or two ingredients and slowly start to stock your pantry in this way. Like all things in life, learning how to support yourself from day to day with creative ease takes practice.
